ALTON — The Alton Police Department is attempting to locate an Alton man wanted for drug and weapons charges.
The Jerseyville Police Department advised Alton detectives Sept. 16 a search warrant was issued by the Jersey County court for the search of 1105 Putnam St. in Alton in relation to a Jerseyville residential burglary case.
The following day the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System tactical team executed the search warrant in Alton. At that time, the Alton Police Department’s drug unit located firearms and a substantial amount of drug evidence. The general case detectives of Alton’s Investigations Division gathered the evidence and conducted interviews, leading to charges for multiple suspects.
China D. Thomas, 27, of Alton, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Her bond was set at $50,000.
Troy E. Slack, 29, of Alton, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon. His bond was set at $30,000.
Brian E. Merrifield, 34 of Alton, is wanted by the Alton police for unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, armed violence, two counts of unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, and armed habitual criminal. Bail has been set for Merrifield at $175,000.
Merrifield is considered armed and dangerous and individual citizens should not attempt to apprehend him. These charges, as well as the statements made herein, are based upon probable cause. The defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
