EDWARDSVILLE — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has issued nationwide extradition arrest warrants for a man they say abducted a 13-year-old Edwardsville area girl and her newborn son.
Christopher M. Derleth is charged with aggravated kidnapping and child abduction. Authorities say he may be in West Virginia with his step-daughter, Katherine E. Derleth, 13, and her 2-week-old son, Christopher Ray Derleth. The mother and son went missing from a guardian’s home Sunday morning in rural Edwardsville.
Katherine E. Derleth is 4 feet, 8 inches tall; weighs 95 pounds, has brown shoulder-length straight hair, brown eyes, a pale complexion and three birthmarks on her right knee.
Her son is 21 inches; weighs 9 pounds and 3 ounces, and has brown hair and dark eyes.
Christopher M. Derleth is age 39; 6 feet, 1 inches tall; 160 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is known to drive a green 1997 Mercury Villager minivan, Illinois registration E833210.
Police say Derleth is an avid camper and may be with Katherine E. Derleth and her son at a rural campground or low-end motel.
