GRANITE CITY — A Pontoon Beach man was charged with home invasion after breaking into a Granite City home and striking the resident with a BB gun, police said.
John M. Bryson, 25, of the first block of Jones Park, was charged Wednesday, Dec. 3, by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office with one count of home invasion, a Class X felony. Associate Judge Clarence Harrison set bail at $250,000 and Bryson was in police custody Thursday.
According to a press release from the Granite City Police Department, officers responded to a call about an armed robbery at 6:52 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, to a residence in the 2800 block of West 20th Street. Police said a woman heard a knock at her front door, slightly opened the door and Bryson pushed his way into the home. Bryson displayed a BB gun and went to the woman’s bedroom, where he demanded she give him jewelry and money. Bryson took several items and tried to leave but got into a confrontation with the resident. Bryson struck her on the arm with the gun, causing a minor laceration injury.
Bryson fled the residence on foot; officers arrested him at Illinois 3 and Old Rock Road after a foot pursuit.
