ALTON — The Alton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a second suspect in a homicide at an abandoned house.
According to charging documents, Bruce D. Bradley, 38, of Fairview Heights, shot and killed Melvin L. Hayes, 39, of St. Louis at about 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, during an armed robbery in the 1000 block of Market Street. Bradley is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of armed robbery, one count of armed violence and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Associate Judge Neil Schroeder set his bond at $1 million.
Bradley was convicted Nov. 22, 2012, in Madison County Circuit Court of unlawful possession of cannabis. The robbery charge states he took marijuana from Hayes. Bradley is accused of shooting Hayes in the chest with a semi-automatic rifle.
Bradley’s alleged accomplice, Antione D. Parker, 33 of Belleville, was arrested Sept. 9 and has been charged with three counts of murder, one count of armed robbery and one count of armed violence. Parker is in custody at the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville. His bond was set at $1 million.
Parker did not shoot Hayes but is being charged with murder because “a person for whom the defendant is legally accountable” is accused of being the shooter.
Bradley is wanted by the Alton Police Department and should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Bradley’s whereabouts should contact the Alton Police Department at (618) 463-3505 or dial 911.
