WOOD RIVER — A South Roxana teen suspected of multiple burglaries was arrested early Tuesday.
In a press release, Wood River Deputy Chief Dan Bunt said Edward W. Kraut, 18, of the 700 block of Sinclair Avenue, was charged by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office with burglary, a Class 2 felony.
Wood River police received a call at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Shop N Save, 1900 E. Edwardsville Road, concerning Kraut fleeing the store on foot. He was apprehended at a nearby business.
During the investigation, police found evidence in Kraut’s vehicle that led officers to suspect Kraut was involved in other burglaries. Kraut was interviewed concerning the property recovered and admitted to breaking into a shed on Dec. 13 in the 1000 block of Cedar in Wood River and to several vehicle burglaries in surrounding communities. The incidents are being investigated by the respective agencies.
Associate Judge Neil Schroeder set Kraut’s bond at $60,000. Kraut is in police custody.
