A St. Louis man pleaded guilty to an armed robbery in Alton and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Christopher Hill, 27, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of armed robbery on Jan. 16 in the 1300 block of Pearl Street in Alton. The initial charge accused him of using a firearm; officials said he used a wrench and knife.
An Alton Police Department investigation revealed that Hill and three other suspects, Rachel Barnes, 24, DeMarco Smith, 20, and Curtis Wallace, 38, went to the victim’s house to commit an armed robbery. While there, officials said Hill and Wallace beat the victim with a gun, pipe wrench and their fists and feet and by stabbing the victim with a knife.
The 55-year-old male victim recovered from multiple serious injuries, some of which were life-threatening.
All four suspects are from St. Louis.
Barnes was charged with armed robbery and home invasion, Smith was charged with armed robbery and home invasion and Wallace was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and home invasion.
