A St. Louis woman was charged today in Madison County Circuit Court, with a felony charge of retail theft over $300, according to a press release from Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz.
Police identified the woman as Regina Williams, 35, of the 3000 block of Texas Avenue.
On Tuesday, May 13, at about 2:05 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Godfrey Walmart, 6660 Godfrey Road, in reference to a reported retail theft. A Walmart loss prevention officer witnessed a woman push a shopping cart containing $340 in unpaid-for merchandise out of the business. The loss prevention officer confronted the woman on the parking lot. The woman fled on foot from the loss prevention officer. Deputies located the suspect, identified as Regina Williams, hiding behind a tree in the 6500 block of Godfrey Road.
Deputies arrested Williams on an outstanding shoplifting warrant out of the Granite City Police Department. Upon her arrest, Williams was found to be in possession of additional Walmart merchandise. Williams was transported to the Madison County Jail, where she was held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The warrant and criminal information was issued by Judge Richard Tognarelli, who set bond at $15,000.
