EDWARDSVILLE — The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office on Thursday charged a third suspect in the May 3 beating death of a South Roxana man outside an Alton bar.
Troy R. Gibson, 24, of Wood River, was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, a Class 3 felony. The charge states Gibson struck and kicked John Gleason, 43, in the body and head, causing his death.
Gibson was not in custody Friday morning, a state’s attorney’s spokesperson said. His bond was set at $100,000.
Wood River twins Adam H. Hosford and Aaron M. Hosford, 35, were indicted Aug. 27 by a grand jury on involuntary manslaughter and obstructing justice (Class 4 felony) charges. Both are accused of concealing physical evidence, their clothing and shoes, from the Alton Police Department. Aaron Hosford also faces one Class 4 felony count of cocaine possession.
An investigation revealed the Hosfords and Gleason got into a verbal dispute that escalated into a violent altercation outside Danny’s Lounge that left Gleason injured. He died of his injuries June 6.
Maximum penalty for a Class 3 felony is two to five years in prison; maximum for a Class 4 felony is one to three years in prison. Involuntary manslaughter carries the potential for an extended term of 5-10 years in prison.
