On Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at approximately 2:38 p.m., Madison County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Walmart store located at 6660 Godfrey Road, Godfrey, in regard to a retail theft witnessed by Walmart Loss Prevention personnel. Deputies were informed two women had been observed removing items from the shelves of the store and immediately responding to the customer service counter to “return” the items for a gift card. The female suspects left the area by vehicle after obtaining the gift card.
Deputies responding to the Walmart located the suspect vehicle near the store and subsequently made contact with its occupants, Stacy Lindley and Brittany Knox. Evidence was recovered from the vehicle and probable cause was established to arrest both women for Retail Theft.
Investigative efforts revealed Knox and Lindley obtained a gift card for the amount of $438.95 by means of “returning” items they had never purchased from the store.
Lindley and Knox were transported to the Madison County Jail where they were held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The warrant and criminal information was issued by the Honorable Judge James Hackett, who set their bond at $30,000.00 each. Both Knox and Lindley were charged with two (2) felony counts due to the fact each had been previously convicted of theft in Madison County Circuit Court and the amount of the theft exceeded $300.00. Knox was also charged with the misdemeanor charge of CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO PROPERTY due to the fact she had been previously banned from the Walmart store relative to another unrelated event.
