EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons charged a Belleville man Wednesday, Sept. 10, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Alton on Saturday, Sept. 6.
Antione D. Parker, 33, is facing murder charges for his role in the death Melvin L. Hayes, 39, who was found shot to death in Alton late Saturday afternoon. Alton Police responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting around 4 p.m. at an abandoned home at 1000 Market St. They found Hayes, a St. Louis resident, dead from a single gunshot wound.
The preliminary investigation has indicated that the shooting may have been drug-related. Although police do not believe that Parker was the actual shooter, he is being charged based on accountability for his role in the incident. The investigation into the murder is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
Parker is facing three counts of murder, one count of armed robbery and one count of armed violence. Maximum penalty for murder is 20 to 60 years in prison; six to 30 years in prison for the armed robbery and armed violence charges. Parker is in custody in Alton and will be taken to the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville. His bond was set at $1 million by Associate Judge Neil Schroeder.
