WOOD RIVER — A Wood River woman was charged Monday in the armed robbery of a 74-year-old man.
In a press release, Deputy Chief Dan Bunt said the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Danielle D. Holmes, 42, of the 800 block of Tennyson, with home invasion and armed robbery, Class X felonies punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison.
At approximately 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Wood River police responded to the 500 block of East Lorena for a report of a home invasion and armed robbery.
On arrival, officers contacted a 74-year-old male victim inside his residence. The victim told police a woman with a covered face entered his residence armed with a knife. The victim was forced to the floor and the woman took an undetermined amount of cash from his wallet. She fled out of the rear door.
The victim believed he recognized the woman’s voice as a person he was familiar with.
Assistance from Alton police K9 unit led officers from the scene east and then south on Sixth Street. Area businesses’ surveillance and their employees also assisted in the quick apprehension of the suspect. She was taken into custody at her residence without incident.
Associate Judge Neil Schroeder set Holmes’ bond at $250,000.
