EAST ALTON - Firefighters got a workout and then some in the late evening and early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9.
The East Alton Fire Department responded to a call at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday to a vacant building on North Shamrock. The Wood River Fire Department, Alton Fire Department, and Rosewood Heights Fire Protection District assisted in the blaze. The building was destroyed,and no injuries were reported.
A representative from the East Alton Fire Department said just as the firefighters were wrapping up the last hose from the Shamrock fire, another call came in at 2:56 a.m. for reports of a fire at the Winchester Division of the Olin Corporation located in the 600 block of Powder Mill Road.
The Alton and Wood River Fire Departments once again responded for aid, along with the Bethalto Fire Department, the Roxana Fire Department, and the Rosewood Heights Fire Protection District chief.
The fire was contained by just before 7 a.m. and no injuries were reported.
