EAST ALTON - The East Alton Village Board accepted the resignation of one of its police officers Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Timothy Harley, a probationary police officer in the East Alton Police Department, took a job with the Illinois State Police.
"While this was not an easy decision, I am confident that my new role will help me to move toward some of my law enforcement career goals," Harley said in a letter to Mayor Fred Bright and Police Chief Dwynn Isringhausen.
Harley started with the ISP Feb. 2.
In other news, the board passed an engineering agreement with Sheppard, Morgan and Schwab, which has offices in Alton and Granite City, for road improvements to Shamrock Avenue, from St. Louis Avenue to 380 feet north of Olin Industrial Drive.
The improvements include patching, milling, hot-mix asphalt resurfacing and sidewalk upgrades to 2,620 feet of road.
Village officials said the $200,000 project will come from the village's motor fuel tax funds, and will not be completed until June to August 2015.
