ALTON – An electrical fire near a basement hot tub damaged a blufftop home Thursday night.
When firefighters arrived at the house at 711 Riverview Drive after being dispatched at approximately 5:30 p.m., they saw flames through a basement window, Battalion Chief Rob Franke said. Firefighters took a 1 3/4-inch attack line house through a basement door and extinguished the fire. Franke said the quick response prevented more damage at the home, which has fire damage around the hot tub and a utility room and smoke damage throughout the house.
“It was a very quick hit,” Deputy Chief Mark Harris said.
A married couple resides at the house in a historic Alton neighborhood that overlooks the Mississippi River.
Firefighters were still on the scene at about 6:40 p.m.
