U.S. Rep. Bill Enyart (D-Illinois) announced Thursday that two communities in Southern Illinois have received development grants.
Enyart said the Anna Fire Department has received $798,143 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The award will fund vehicle acquisition and is the largest of eight announced in the state of Illinois.
“This grant brings critical equipment dollars for the Anna Fire Department,” Enyart said. “I’m pleased that almost $800,000 in federal dollars for new vehicles will assist the critical work that the Anna Fire Department does every day.
”The Department of Homeland Security awarded the grant to the Anna Fire Department through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grant was awarded specifically for vehicle acquisition, which can include pumpers, aerials, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, or ambulances.
Additionally, the Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone (SIDEZ) in Mounds was awarded a $44,700 Rural Business Enterprise Grant from the USDA.
Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone (SIDEZ) will use the $44,700 Rural Business Enterprise Grant from the USDA’s Rural Development Program to purchase equipment to lease to local small businesses focused on community and economic development.
“SIDEZ is an important force of development in Southern Illinois,” Enyart said. “Now, with the assistance of the USDA’s Rural Development Program, they will continue to promote the continued economic development of Alexander, Johnson, and Pulaski counties.”
