U.S. Rep. Bill Enyart (D-Illinois) has accepted the Illinois Farm Bureau’s endorsement along with the Friend of Agriculture award.
“This award is an incredible honor,” Enyart said. “When I ran for office in 2012, I made promises to our Southern Illinois farmers that I would represent them in Washington. As an original cosponsor of WOTUS (Waters of the U.S. bill), and with my work on renewable fuels and the water bill, I think I’ve done just that.”
Two years ago, the Illinois Farm Bureau did not endorse any candidates in the 12th Congressional District race. This year, the group chose to endorse Enyart because of his work as an original cosponsor of the Waters of the U.S. bill, renewable fuel standards, the water bill, and the farm bill.
“Rep. Enyart helped the Farm Bureau accomplish two of its highest-priority issues in this session of Congress — the farm bill and the first water resources reauthorization in seven years,” IFB national legislative director Adam Nielsen said. “In addition, he has taken a leadership role in fighting the EPA’s proposed overreach of regulatory authority under the Clean Water Act.”
