The winning entry for the Q.E.M. Fire Protection District
GODFREY — A representative of Illinois American Water presented checks to two area fire departments Wednesday for winning a statewide photo contest.
Between May 4 and May 15, Illinois American Water invited the public to vote via Facebook on photos submitted by fire departments from across the state. During the contest, which was launched in conjunction with National Drinking Water Week, approximately 11,200 votes were cast. Based on voting, Illinois American Water issued donations as follows:
· Godfrey Fire Protection District in the Alton District – $1,250 (first place).
· Q.E.M. Fire Protection District in the Alton District – $1,000 (second place).
· Northwest Homer Fire Protection District in the Chicago Metro District – $750 (third place).
"In addition to helping local firefighters, the contest raised awareness about the role drinking water plays in critical fire protection," Alton District Operations Superintendent Karen Cooper said. “In the hands of firefighters, water saves lives. We are proud to partner with our local firefighters and for the role our team plays in public safety.”
Cooper presented checks Wednesday to Godfrey Fire Protection District and Q.E.M. Fire Protection District at GFPD Station 2 in Godfrey.
