GODFREY — The American Red Cross and the Godfrey Fire Protection District will host a Smoke Alarm Installation Rally from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16.
Firefighters will canvass two neighborhoods identified by fire loss data as most in need of smoke alarms and fire safety information. All across the country the American Red Cross has launched a Home Fire Preparedness Campaign dedicated to reducing fatalities and injuries from home fires. The campaign’s focus is to install smoke alarms in residents’ homes and work with them to promote fire safety, both of which are proven steps to save lives and prevent injuries in home fires.
Cornerstone Church on North Alby Street will provide their facility as a base of operations for the event. Subway will provide lunch to volunteers. Fire experts agree people may have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home before it’s too late to escape. Home fires have no boundaries; the Red Cross’ smoke alarm installation campaign helps ensure everyone has a fighting chance to get out.
