EAST ALTON — East Alton firefighters started their Tuesday morning hot and heavy with a car fire on Illinois 140 across from Twin Cities restaurant.
“I was on my way to work and I noticed a little smoke coming from under the hood,” Mustang car owner Julie Williams said. “I work just down the road and I hoped that I could get it that far to park it. I noticed smoke started coming in the cab and I knew I had to get pulled over.”
East Alton police officers directed traffic away from the fully engulfed Ford Mustang to allow the fire department to arrive. Firefighters from East Alton and Olin responded to the scene and the fire was quickly extinguished.
“I was able to get out quick and safe,” Williams said. “I feel very fortunate. I love my car; however, it’s replaceable."
Williams is from Bethalto and was on her way to work at the Alton Mental Health Center across from Gordon Moore Park.
