The 57th annual Blessing of the Fleet and Parade of Boats has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9.
In a posting on the event’s website, Blessing of the Fleet Inc. President Darryll Weil said the Upper Pool Parade will begin in front of the Yacht Club of St. Louis at 1 p.m. and the Lower Pool Parade will begin at Alton Marina at 1 p.m. Both parades will merge and pass the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rivers at 2:15 p.m. Boaters are welcome to join the parades at any point along the routes.
The decorating theme is “Noah’s Ark.” Decorated boats will be reviewed by a panel of judges on the deck at Palisades Yacht Club. The Antique and Classic Boat Society-Mississippi Valley Chapter will not be able to attend and Capt. Dutch Hauhe will turn over lead boat duties to his co-captain of previous years, Randy Bicknese.
Organizers are seeking volunteers to help clean up the shrine site, especially people who have power equipment and vehicles to remove debris left behind by flood waters. The cleanup date will be posted on the Blessing website and RiverBills.com.
