EDWARDSVILLE — The former chief deputy of the Madison County Coroner’s Office died early Monday, Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said.
In a press release Monday, Nonn said Ralph H. Baahlmann Jr., 61, of the 26000 block of Lakeview Terrace in Godfrey, was pronounced dead at Alton Memorial Hospital at 3:22 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17. He had been transported by ambulance to Alton Memorial after a 911 call was received at 1:47 a.m. from his home after being found in medical distress by his partner.
Baahlmann was the former chief deputy of the Madison County Coroner’s Office, serving as a deputy first under retired Coroner Dallas M. Burke and then current Coroner Steve Nonn. He retired in 2007 after 31 years of service.
The cause of death is under investigation. Routine toxicology testing remains pending at this time. A precise cause and manner of death will be determined upon completion of the investigation, completion of toxicological examinations and review of medical records, Nonn said.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Gent Funeral Home, 2409 State St., Alton. Visitation for the public will be on 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, and a funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
