FOSTERBURG – For one night, the area’s Parrot Heads will turn their attentions to our four-legged friends.
On Sept. 13, the local Jimmy Buffet fan club, the Parrot Heads of the River Bend, will host a “Party for Pets House Concert” featuring “trop rock” musician Terry Beck at 7 p.m. at the Thorpa Cabana in Fosterburg.
“When Kevin (Hilligoss) and I started the club almost four years ago, we said we wanted to help our community in four areas — our military, senior citizens, children and animals,” Parrot Heads of the River Bend president Debbie DeLassus said. “We chose the 5As right away and have been donating items and cash at different times throughout the years since.”
A $10 per adult donation will go to benefit the 5As Animal Shelter, the oldest animal shelter in the Greater Alton area.
“We have been wanting to try a house concert and so this was perfect,” DeLassus said. “Terry Beck is actually one of our members now and had told me a while ago that he’d be happy to volunteer his time for a charity event. Then Dee Thorp, one of our members, and her husband, Ron, volunteered to host it.”
Terry Beck, who lives in Missouri and is a teacher by day, is a longtime Parrot Head and often can be seen performing at wineries in Illinois and Missouri.
In addition to live music, activities will include 50/50 and $20 per chance drawing for four Cardinals baseball tickets. Hot dogs and snacks will be provided, and guests are invited to bring their own coolers, alcohol, blankets and lawn chairs.
“We are super-excited about this and hope it goes great so we can plan to do it yearly and have it be bigger yet,” DeLassus said.
Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Thorpa Cabana at 3272 Seiler Road (one-half mile east off Fosterburg Road). For more information, call (618) 971-7688.
