Visitation and funeral services for former U.S. Sen. Alan J. Dixon, who died Sunday, July 6, are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, July 13-14, at Lindenwood University in Belleville.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday and 10-11 a.m. Monday; funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Both services will be held in the university’s auditorium, south of Main Street between 23rd and 24th streets.
The visitation and funeral services are open to the public; a private interment for family and close friends will follow the funeral services.
The services will include remarks from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, former Illinois Gov. Jim Thompson and American economist, writer and Dixon’s former chief of staff, Gene Callahan. Al Ridley, an ordained Baptist minister and Callahan’s son-in-law, will preside over the services.
In lieu of flowers, the Dixon family requests donations be made to a hospice of the donor’s choice or Lindenwood University/Belleville, U.S. Senator Alan J. Dixon Center, 2600 W. Main St., Belleville, IL 62226.
Parking for guests will be available in a number of lots surrounding the auditorium and Lindenwood campus. Signage and local police will help to direct parking.
