The Godfrey Fire Protection District is among the winners of Illinois American Water’s recent social media photo contest to benefit Illinois firefighters. Three Illinois fire departments will share a donation of $3,000.
Between May 4 and May 15, Illinois American Water invited the public to vote on photos submitted by fire departments from across the state. During the contest, launched in conjunction with National Drinking Water Week, more than 11,200 votes were cast. Based on voting, Illinois American Water will issue donations as follows:
• Godfrey Fire Protection District – $1,250 (first place).
• Q.E.M. Fire Protection District – $1,000 (second place).
• Northwest Homer Fire Protection District in the Chicago Metro District – $750 (third place).
In addition to helping local firefighters, the contest helped raise awareness about the role drinking water plays in fire protection.
“In the hands of firefighters, water saves lives,” Illinois American Water President Bruce Hauk said. “We are proud to partner with our local firefighters and for the role our team plays in public safety.”
For more than 35 years, the American Water Works Association and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week. This year’s National Drinking Water Week theme was “What do you know about H2O?” Learn more about water service via Illinois American Water’s online learning center at www.illinoisamwater.com.
