GODFREY — The Godfrey Fire Protection District will conduct an acquired structure training burn from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30.
The Vest family of Godfrey has provided a two-story residence at 5414 Pierce Lane. Applicable permits, including a burn permit from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, have been acquired. Because of limited parking and the hazard of live-fire training, this event is not open to the public. Fire line barrier tape will be in place and fire district officials request members of the public stay outside of the controlled area.
“We have not conducted an acquired structure training burn in Godfrey since 2007,” Fire Chief Erik Kambarian said. “This is an exceptional opportunity for our firefighters to focus on the fire behavior and dynamics of a residential structure in a controlled training environment.”
The Brighton Betsey Ann Fire District will assist with the training exercise.
