GODFREY — The 2014 Godfrey Women’s Club Silver Spoon award was presented to Virginia Long at the club’s Christmas luncheon at Alton-Wood River Sportsmen’s Club.
The award is bestowed every year in December on a member of the club who has provided exceptional service to the club and the community.
Club President Janice Emmons said Long has been a member of Godfrey Women’s Club since 2002. During that time, Long has been chairwoman of many committees for the club, such as the April Luncheon and Decorating Co-Chair for the Carousel for a number of years. This year Long served as the Christmas Carousel Co-Chair.
Long served on the Scholarship Committee for many years and was instrumental in the club establishing a Scholarship Endowment Fund for Lewis and Clark Community College. Through fundraisers such as the Christmas Carousel and a golf tournament, as well as contributions from members, the club was able to raise more than $26,000 toward the endowment fund. This money received matching funds to total more than $53,000. Long’s efforts in supporting the fundraisers with her talent, hard work and creativity were a big reason for their success.
Long has also been very involved in community activities, volunteerism and has served on boards and committees for many years.
Godfrey Women’s Club is very proud to have Long as a member of club and she is very deserving of this award.
