EDWARDSVILLE — Authorities are investigating the death of a Pontoon Beach man killed in an industrial mishap Friday morning in Venice.
In a press release, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said an autopsy has been conducted to aid in the investigation of the death of Kevin J. Slaton, 56, at Custom Steel Processing Inc., 1001 College St.
Slaton was trapped between two coils of steel. The incident was reported to emergency dispatchers at 7:33 a.m. Madison County Coroner’s Chief Investigator Kelly R. Rogers pronounced Slaton dead at 8:33 a.m. Friday.
The autopsy indicated the cause of death as craniocerebral blunt head trauma. Routine toxicology studies for the presence of alcohol and drugs also will be performed. The death also remains under investigation by the Venice Police Department and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. Monday at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory, 3939 Lake Drive, Pontoon Beach.
