GRANITE CITY — Six members of the Southwest Quad City Unit of Church Women United attended the CWU State Assembly in Springfield, Ill.
While there, they submitted an application for a $25,000 one-year senior assistance grant. The unit is partnering with Community Care Center in Granite City to provide personal items such as Depends, sanitary pads and toilet tissue to seniors receiving regular assistance from the Community Care Center. The grant is part of a larger anonymous gift received by the National Church Women United to assist local units in furthering the work of Church Women United in Illinois.
Upcoming events of the local unit are May Friendship Day on May 6 at Calvary Life Church. This will be a potluck salad luncheon at noon preceding a program at 1 p.m.
A fundraiser will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Ravanelli’s in Granite City. A flier must be presented at time of payment.
Unit meetings are at 9:30 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at St. John United Church of Christ, 2901 Nameoki Road in Granite City. The organization welcomes all church women of diverse races, cultures and traditions.
