ALTON — The RiverBend Pet Food Pantry, cosponsored by Metro East Humane Society, Partners For Pets and SNIP Alliance, will open Sunday, May 22, at Alton Public Works, 2 Emma L. Kaus Lane.
The pantry will provide a one-month supply of food for up to three animals per residence to financially struggling pet owners. Loss of employment, disability or medical expenses for senior citizens can lead to the painful decision to relinquish their beloved pet or in some cases to provide food for their pets and not themselves. The pantry will help these individuals keep and feed their beloved pets.
Pet owners must provide a photo identification, proof of need and proof of pet ownership. Guidelines and applications are on the sponsoring organizations’ websites, on the RiverBend Pet Food Pantry Facebook site or can be obtained by calling (618) 660-4910. Distribution begins at 9 a.m. Recipients must be in line no later than 11 a.m.
Volunteers are needed for bagging and distribution days. Volunteers can download an application on the Facebook page or receive information by emailing email@example.com. Corporate and civic organizations are encouraged to schedule a date for their employees or members to volunteer.
Organizers are pursuing pet food collection sites. Businesses interested in receiving a collection box can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (618) 660-4910. A list of collection sites will be posted on the websites and Facebook page as soon as it is completed.
