EDWARDSVILLE — A Hamel man was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash after losing control of his car and striking a power pole.
In a press release, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said an investigation continues into a crash at approximately 7:15 p.m. that killed Kevin R. Stevenson, 54, on Staunton Road just north of Schein Road in Worden.
Stevenson was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:02 p.m. by Madison County Coroner’s Supervisory Investigator Debbi von Nida.
The decedent was alone and driving a 2014 red Nissan north on Brakhane Road. A witness reported Stephenson was driving erratically and speeding. About 20 feet north of Schein Road on Staunton Road, he lost control of the car, striking a culvert and a power pole. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car.
An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday morning. Routine toxicology testing will also be conducted. In addition to the coroner’s office, the death continues to be investigated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Dauderman Mortuary.
Collinsville man drowns in pond
Nonn also reported that an investigation continues into an apparent drowning death Wednesday afternoon at a private pond in the 300 block of Troy-O’Fallon Road in Troy.
Richard A. Brown, 46, of Collinsville, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:40 p.m. by Madison County Coroner’s Investigator Kelsey Wofford.
The decedent made a bet with a friend to swim across the length of the pond. The friend made it across; Brown made it about halfway and then went underwater. Efforts to find him were unsuccessful and a call was made to 911. His body was recovered with the assistance of the Troy Fire Department.
An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday morning. Routine toxicology testing will also be conducted. In addition to the coroner’s office, the death continues to be investigated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department
