EDWARDSVILLE — An East St. Louis man staying at an Alton hotel died after being hit by a vehicle while he was crossing Homer Adams Parkway, authorities said Monday.
In a press release, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said an investigation continues into the death of Benjamin C. George, 24.
George was apparently crossing the road in the 1700 block of Homer Adams Parkway when he was struck by a westbound passenger car. Investigators later learned George had been staying at a nearby Super 8 Motel. The incident occurred at 5:56 p.m. Sunday.
George was transported by ambulance from the scene to OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, where he was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.
An autopsy Monday morning indicated George died as a result of blunt head trauma. Toxicology testing for the presence of alcohol and drugs remains pending at this time. The death remains under investigation by the Alton Police Department.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. until funeral services at 7 p.m. Thursday at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home, 2521 Edwards St. in Alton.
