The Third Judicial Circuit has announced that Chief Judge David A. Hylla was elected vice chairman of the Illinois Conference of Chief Judges on Dec. 12 in Chicago.
The conference was established by and operates under the authority of the Illinois Supreme Court. The conference’s goal is to improve the justice system and assist the Supreme Court in managing the affairs of the 23 circuit courts in Illinois.
Duly elected chief judges from each of the 23 circuit courts serve as members of the Conference of Chief Judges, which meet on a monthly basis. Earlier in the year, Chief Judge Joseph G. McGraw of the 17th Judicial Circuit Court was named chairman of the conference upon the retirement of then-Chair Chief Judge Elizabeth A. Robb of the 11th Judicial Circuit.
“My election as vice chair of the Conference of Chief Judges is an honor shared by past and present judges and trial court administration staff of the Third Judicial Circuit,” Hylla said. “This Court has been progressive for many years in many areas, including drug court intervention, veteran’s assistance, electronic court filings, arbitration and mediation. It is my sincere desire to continue that tradition of providing leadership on a statewide level.”
Hylla also serves as chairman of the Illinois Supreme Court’s e-Business Policy Advisory Board, and as a member of the Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on Justice and Mental Health Planning. He also serves on the conference’s Committee on Jury Representation.
