The Illinois Department of Transportation announces the closure of an additional highway because of flooding: Illinois 100 through Grafton between Illinois 3 and Ski Lift Road.
In addition, Illinois 100 from Illinois 16 in Hardin to U.S. 36 in Detroit and the Brussels Ferry remain closed.
Illinois 100 between Illinois 3 and U.S. 67 in Alton should remain open. However, the department will continue to monitor this road along with all others within the 11 counties of District 8 throughout the weekend. IDOT will provide updates to significant changes when developments occur.
The Mississippi River at Mel Price Locks and Dam in Alton was at 27.07 feet at 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The river is predicted to crest at 27.4 feet at 1 p.m. Wednesday and to drop below flood stage Sunday. Flood stage is 21 feet.
Traffic control devices and directional signage, including dynamic message boards, have been deployed to assist motorists in safely navigating around closures. Travelers are advised to consider alternate routes and avoid known closures. Additional travel times should be expected throughout the region. Motorists are urged to be patient as travel times and patterns will be affected throughout the weekend.
