The Illinois Department of Transportation Wednesday announced the closing of the I-70 Westbound Silver Lake Rest Area and the I-64 Eastbound Gateway Rest Area to visitors and traffic on Monday, March 17.
The closures are necessary for construction activities to renovate the restrooms in each facility. It is anticipated this work will be completed by June 30. Grunloh Construction Inc., through the Illinois Capital Development Board, will perform the work.
Traffic control devices will be utilized during the closures. Travelers in need of a rest stop can utilize I-70 Eastbound Silver Lake Rest Area or the I-64 Westbound Gateway Rest Area, which will remain open during the construction.
See the department’s website, www.stl-traffic.org/, for the latest information on area road closures.
