Illinois Department of Transportation officials ask motorists to be patient, reduce speed and use caution when traveling in work zones.
PONTOON BEACH — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the intersection at Illinois 11 and Chain of Rocks Road will be closed to all traffic beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, to replace the concrete pavement in the intersection.
All work is expected to be completed by Sept. 23. The detour routes will be marked as follows:
• To north Illinois 111: take Interstate 270 to north Illinois 255 to west North Poag Road to Illinois 111
• To west Chain of Rocks Road: take I-270 to north Illinois 203/Chain of Rocks Road
• To east Chain of Rocks Road: take I-270 to north Illinois 157 to west Chain of Rocks Road
In addition, minor lane closures will be encountered Aug. 25-Aug. 28 for widening and pavement saw-cutting.
The department asks that motorist be patient, reduce speed and use extreme caution when traveling near and throughout the work zone. Please allow for extra time when traveling the above detour routes. Additional signing and traffic control devices will be provided to assist motorists through the work zones.
