COLLINSVILLE — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday that the bridge carrying Illinois 4 over Interstate 55 will be closed to traffic beginning Wednesday, March 4.
The closure will be necessary to remove and replace the bridge deck. Detours will be in place to guide traffic around the closure. The northbound detour will guide traffic onto northbound I-55 to New Douglas Road (exit 37), westbound on New Douglas Road and southbound on I-55 back to Illinois 4. The southbound detour will guide traffic onto southbound I-55 to Illinois 140 (exit 30), eastbound on Illinois 140 and northbound on I-55 back to Illinois 4. This work is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2015. Motorists should consider alternate routes to avoid delay.
