Senior Services Plus
ALTON — The Older Adults Health Council of Madison County and Senior Services Plus will sponsor a Just for the Health of It fall health fair from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Senior Services Plus, 2603 N. Rodgers Ave.
This free event is open to the public and will provide information on services available in the area as well as opportunities to participate in free health screenings. Information will be available local resources such as home health agencies, fitness centers, hospice agencies, adult day services, dementia and Alzheimer’s support, supportive and assisted living communities, counseling, physical therapy, independent and skilled nursing and rehab facilities, and community service organizations.
The Older Adults Health Council was formed in 2008, with various members of local organizations all working together to assist older adults. The goal of each attendee of the Older Adult Health Council is to provide superior services to the local senior community. The council’s purpose is to offer education and information for building successful referral networks regarding senior social, personal and health services.
“We are so proud that this health fair has grown into the largest offered in the Alton area,” said Candice Arana, president of the Older Adults Health Council. “There is no better way to find resources than to visit with representatives while they are all in one spot. This gives an individual the ability to learn about and compare services so that the best decision can be made when it comes to caring for yourself or a loved one.”
“The health screenings offered at this health fair can possibly save lives,” said Kim Campbell, a member of the Older Adults Health Council and representative for Senior Services Plus. “For lower-income individuals or those who are generally curious about their health, the vendors on site will be glad to assist you with screenings like blood pressure checks, mammography screenings, audiology screenings, and more.”
All ages are welcome to attend the fair. Vendors will provide door prizes throughout the event.
