ALTON — The annual Alton Labor Day parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.
The parade will begin at the Alton Middle School parking lot, 2200 College Ave., and stretch to Gordon Moore Park, 4550 College Ave., where a picnic will be held for local union members and their families. The event, commemorating organized labor and union members, is sponsored by the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor.
The parade, one of the state’s oldest labor commemorations, is traditionally held the Saturday before Labor Day weekend so it doesn’t conflict with a Labor Day parade in Granite City the next weekend.
The parade is free and open to the public. For information, call (618) 259-8558 or (618) 254-1395.
