Illinois Department of Transportation officials ask motorists to be patient, reduce speed and use caution when traveling in work zones.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that lane restrictions will be encountered along northbound and southbound Interstate 55 from 1.3 miles north of Illinois 140 to 1/2 miles north of Illinois 4 beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Lane closures will be utilized to repair shoulders, regrade slopes and reseed bare earth areas. No lane closures will take place during from 6-9 a.m. southbound or 3-6 p.m. northbound.
Traffic control devices will be utilized to move traffic through the work zone. Delays should be expected, so plan accordingly. In addition, motorists should drive cautiously through the work zone. The work is estimated to be completed by Nov. 15.
Illinois 111 at Chain of Rocks Road in Pontoon Beach
The intersection at Illinois 111 and Chain of Rocks Road in Pontoon Beach has reopened to traffic. The west leg of Chain of Rocks Road west of the intersection will remain closed through Thursday, Sept. 18, to replace the concrete pavement, weather permitting. The detour route will be marked as follows:
To West Chain of Rocks Road - Take Interstate 270 to North Illinois 203/Chain of Rocks Road.
IDOT asks that motorists be patient, reduce speed, and use extreme caution when traveling near and throughout this work zone. Allow for extra time when traveling the above detour routes. Additional signing and traffic control devices will be provided to assist motorists through the work zones.
