State Rep. Dan Beiser visits with Christine Velloff of the 1904 General Store in the store at 322 E. Broadway in Alton. Beiser toured the store as part of Small Business Saturday.
ALTON — State Rep. Dan Beiser, D-Alton, recently visited the 1904 General Store on Small Business Saturday to encourage area residents to shop at local businesses.
The store’s wares include bulk candy like Sixlets, fudge and chocolate bars of various flavors from the East Coast. The store also houses a gift shop that includes J.R. Watkins products, repurposed furniture, wooden signs that can be customized and more. The store is in the historic World’s Fair building at 322 E. Broadway in Alton.
“Supporting small businesses in our area means providing support to our friends, neighbors and community,” Beiser said. “I encourage area residents to shop locally whenever possible to make sure employers can keep people working, keep their doors open, and contribute to our tax base.”
