Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is encouraging vehicle enthusiasts to mark their calendars for the 66th Secretary of State Vehicle Show and Swap Meet on Saturday, Sept. 12, in downtown Springfield at the corner of Capitol Avenue and Second Street. The show is celebrating the Chrysler Dodge Challenger.
First organized in 1949 as an Antique Auto Meet, this year’s show will not only feature many premium vehicles in Illinois, but also showcase sports cars, motorcycles, trucks, recreational vehicles, hot rods and tractors.
“The Vehicle Show is a great venue for automobile enthusiasts of all ages, and we expect once again to have some of the finest vehicles from Illinois and neighboring states on display,” White said. “It is a special thrill this year to honor the Dodge Challenger on the 2015 Secretary of State Vehicle Show special event license plates.”
An Illinois State Champion award will be given to the vehicle judged best at the show by the Vehicle Show Advisory Committee. This year’s show also will honor the Chrysler automobile with a special Marque Award. The award represents a different style or manufacturer each year. First-, second- and third-place winners will receive a prize in more than 60 classes.
“Each year the show brings some top-notch cars to Springfield for a very special event,” said Secretary of State Vehicle Show Board member Steve Brown of Washington, Ill. “This year’s show has an added element of excitement with the celebration of the Dodge Challenger, along with many other Chrysler automobiles.”
A limited number of special event license plates promoting the event are available for $20 per set. These commemorative plates are available to anyone with an Illinois registered vehicle, and the plates may be displayed for up to 60 days before the show on Sept. 12.
