EAST ALTON — Ameren Illinois crews restored electricity to Bethalto and East Alton customers after a power outage early Monday caused by a broken utility pole.
Ameren Illinois spokesman Brian Bretsch said the utility received its first call about the outage at approximately 7 a.m. and was able to quickly get workers to the scene to assess the situation. The outage initially affected approximately 500 customers, primarily in East Alton with a few in Bethalto.
“We were able to do some switching early this morning and we got it down to about 380 customers,” he said.
After making a JULIE call to determine digging safety, crews began installing a new pole at about 9:45 a.m. Bretsch said utility workers were unable to determine a cause for why the top of the pole broke.
Power was restored to the area at about 3 p.m.
