U.S. Rep. Bill Enyart (D-Illinois) issued a statement Wednesday reminding Southern Illinoisans of key dates for both Medicare and the Affordable Care Act open enrollment.
“Southern Illinois seniors can enroll in a new Medicare plan, or switch plans right now,” Enyart said. “Open enrollment for Medicare is now through December 7.”
Medicare open enrollment is the period in which seniors and disabled people can make alterations to their Medicare coverage. Additionally, new enrollees can sign up for coverage beginning in 2015. The open enrollment period ends on Dec. 7.
Individuals interested in learning more can visit the federal government’s website at www.medicare.gov.
“It is also important for Southern Illinoisans to note that the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act is now through December 15,” Enyart said.
If a person doesn’t have coverage, he or she can visit the Marketplace to learn about various plans, to see what financial assistance is available, and get covered. Visit www.HealthCare.gov, contact the call center at (800) 318-2596, or find in-person assistance in your community to find the plan that best meets your needs. The Affordable Care Act deadline is Dec. 15 for coverage that starts on Jan. 1.
