The chief of the Medora Volunteer Fire Department was killed Thursday after being hit by a fire truck.
According to a press release from Illinois State Police District 18, firefighters were responding to a medical emergency at 2:26 p.m. on Illinois 111 one-half mile south of Illinois 108 in the rural Chesterfield area and were closing the road for a helicopter to land. Fire Chief Kenneth Lehr, 59, of Fidelity was struck by a fire truck as it was backing up.
Lehr was pronounced dead at the scene by the Macoupin County Coroner’s Office. Illinois State Police is reconstructing the crash as part of its investigation.
The 46-year-old driver of the fire truck is from Medora.
