MITCHELL – A brush fire that started off Highway 111 on Monday afternoon caused no real damage and left no injured.
Mitchell Fire Department responded to the scene at 12:09 p.m. at 6500 Highway 111.
Mitchell Fire Department officials said the family that lives at the residence was burning cardboard boxes in the tree line behind the house when the fire spread across 8 acres.
South Roxana Fire Chief Todd Werner said fire departments were working at putting out “hot spots” after the fire was under control.
Mitchell Fire Department was assisted by the South Roxana, Glen Carbon, Madison and Long Lake Fire Departments.
