The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the reopening of the MLK Jr. Bridge over the Mississippi River in East St. Louis.
Because work was completed sooner than expected, the bridge will be re-opened to traffic by 4 p.m. Friday. The ramp from St. Clair Avenue to westbound Interstate 55/64 will be re-opened at the same time.
After the bridge is reopened to traffic, there will be periodic temporary closures of the bridge over the next several months to complete minor work items and remove the contractor’s scaffolding. Any additional closures will be limited to weekends and/or weekday off-peak traffic hours.
