Due to the retirement of Capt. Greg Nighohossian, the Granite City Fire Department made a couple of promotions in July.
Rich Moore was promoted from engineer to captain and Justin Kirk was promoted to engineer after working as a firefighter and paramedic.
“Rich Moore has been with the department since August 3, 1994,” Granite City Fire Chief Vince Martinez said. “He served as a firefighter and paramedic for a number of years, then engineer. Now, he’s been promoted and he’s been a very valuable asset. Justin Kirk has been a member of the department since June 4, 2004. He served as a firefighter and paramedic since that date. He’s now promoted to engineer and he’s also been a very valuable asset to the department.”
Kirk, who is originally from Collinsville and has a wife and two children, said he was thrilled with his promotion.
“I was happy,” he said.
Moore did not return calls seeking comment.
Martinez said Nighohossian started working at the Granite City Fire Department in 1986. Nighohossian retired on July 2.
