Legendary Mustang Sanctuary founders Shawn and Kathy Lewis.
ALTON — The Piasa Palisades chapter of the Sierra Club will sponsor a presentation about the Legendary Mustang Sanctuary at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at the First Unitarian Church, 110 E. Third St.
The sanctuary’s mission is to rescue as many wild mustang horses and burros as it can. Shawn and Kathy Lewis founded the tax-exempt nonprofit organization in 2008. It collaborates with the federal government’s Bureau of Land Management, Department of Interior. The Lewises both grew up around horses — Kathy always wanted a mustang to ride. After she talked Shawn into getting horses, she eventually convinced him to get mustangs and started this important animal program at their farm in Alhambra.
An outing to their farm in early March will be announced. Attendees and friends are invited to have dinner and meet the speakers at 5:30 p.m. at Princivalli’s Restaurant, 602 E. Third St. For information, call Chris Krusa, Sierra Club program chair, at (410) 490-5024.
