James Taylor and his parents, James and Berhonda
ALTON — Last August, the Hayner Genealogy and Local History Library hosted a PBS production team while they filmed an episode of their nationally syndicated television show “The Genealogy Roadshow.”
The subject of their filming was 14-year-old James Taylor, a sophomore at Alton High School. James has been involved in researching his own family’s genealogy since he was 8 years old, when he first started questioning his mother and father about his family’s background. Over the years, through contact with extended family members and his own genealogical research, James has been able to trace his family origins back to Mali, a country in West Africa. James was picked to tell his story on “The Genealogy Roadshow” from more than 1,000 other applicants.
In addition to the Genealogy and Local History Library, the production team filmed at My Just Desserts in Alton and at Union Station in downtown St. Louis.
This PBS program will air at 7 p.m. Jan. 20.
