Flames consume a two-story home at 1321 Easton St. in Alton on Feb. 3, 2014. No one was injured in the fire.
ALTON - An Alton house fire left no one injured Monday morning.
Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold said the fire department got a call at about 10:15 a.m. for a fire at a two-story house at 1321 Easton St.
When they arrived, the fire was “fully involved,” with flames coming out of every window on the first floor and two windows on the second floor.
Sebold said the property owner, Jayson Smith, of Godfrey, turned the furnace on before he left the house.
Forty-five minutes later, Smith returned to find the first floor enveloped in smoke. Sebold said the house – according to Smith – was undergoing renovation and no one was living in it at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire will remain undetermined because of structural damage, Sebold said, citing the furnace as a probable culprit.
The house was a total loss, Sebold said.
According to Madison County records, the house's value was estimated at about $8,000.
The East Alton Fire Department assisted Alton on the scene.
